This time around, it’s Adarius Bowman’s turn for a monthly award win.
The Canadian Football League announced on Wednesday morning that the Edmonton Eskimos’ slotback is its offensive player of the month for August. He pulled in 29 passes for 383 yards and had a touchdown in each of the team’s four games. With 742 yards on the season, Bowman has a healthy lead on Winnipeg’s Clarence Denmark (597 yards) for the league lead in receiving. He had eight catches for 123 yards in Monday’s Labour Day loss to Calgary.
Bowman’s win follows Esks quarterback Mike Reilly, who claimed the award in July.
Saskatchewan defensive end John Chick was named defensive player of the month, while his teammate, receiver Rob Bagg, was named top Canadian. B.C. returner Tim Brown won special teams honours.
The Eskimos host the Labour Day rematch game at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday.
Esks tinker with practice roster
The Eskimos added 27-year-old wide receiver Isaiah Williams to their practice roster on Wednesday morning. In four years at Maryland, Williams caught 64 passes for 902 yards and five touchdowns, through 43 games. Williams replaces receiver L.J. Castille, who was simultaneously released from the team’s practice roster. Castile came to the team on July 7.
