Accidental references to the Calgary Stampeders aside, the Edmonton Eskimos are the last pony to cross the line in the Canadian Football League’s signature uniform series.

The team unveiled its alternate uniform on its website Tuesday morning to mixed reaction from fans and jersey aficionados of varying levels. The uniform is a simple look, with the Eskimos’ EE logo magnified on the jersey front and on the helmet. Numbers have moved from the chest to the arm.

From their release:

The bold and dynamic jersey pays tribute to the club’s rich history with a large gold EE logo crested on the chest against a traditional Eskimo green backdrop, accented by gold piping on the shoulders. The back collar also features the iconic logo with team fight song lyrics “The Green & Gold is Bold” stitched inside.

The signature uniform is completed by a modern green helmet with incredible attention to detail – miniature Eskimo logos join to form two stripes running atop a showcased team logo. Gold pants proudly display “Eskimos” inside green trim.

The jerseys are available for purchase today (Tuesday, Sept. 2). The Eskimos will wear these uniforms twice this year, debuting them on Saturday against Calgary. They’ll wear them again on Thanksgiving weekend when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers come to town.

Calgary unveiled its uniform on Labour Day against the Eskimos. Check out the rest of the league’s signature uniforms here.

What do you think of the Eskimos’ alternate uniform? Where does it stack up against the other eight teams in the CFL?
