A few days into a news-heavy week in the CFL, the Edmonton Eskimos have been plugging away, adding pieces to their roster.

Wednesday’s signing of non-import defensive end Mathieu Boulay, along with Tuesday’s signing of import offensive lineman D’Anthony Batiste aren’t on the same scale as Ottawa plucking Henry Burris out of free agency or Wednesday’s coach of the year announcement (webcast of the announcement below), but the club has been active this week shoring up some key pieces of its roster.

Boulay, 26, spent 2013 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the 2011 season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, recording minimal stats while working primarily on special teams.

At six-foot-four and 314 pounds, Batiste brings a lot of size and some pro experience to the Eskimos’ offensive line. The 31-year-old has seen 37 games in the NFL, with the bulk of them coming in 2009 in Washington (eight games) and 2012 in Arizona (15 games, 10 starts).

As I hit publish on this post, the CFL coach of the year announcement is set to begin in Ottawa.
