The Edmonton Eskimos made their first splash of the new year on Wednesday morning, announcing on their website that they’d signed a trio of import players.

The team added wide receiver Nicholas Edwards, cornerback Domonique Johnson and defensive back Desmond Marrow.

Edwards will have at least a pair of familiar faces waiting for him in Edmonton. He went to Eastern Washington University and played his college football with Eskimos quarterback Matt Nichols and linebacker J.C. Sherritt. The six-foot-three, 204-pound 24-year-old had 215 catches for 2,634 yards and 33 touchdowns for the Eagles between 2009 and 2012. Some other info on Edwards: He has a 40-inch vertical leap and as this video shows, has no problem making catches in traffic.

Johnson (six-foot-one, 191 pounds)  is 28 and played his college football at Jackson State in 2007 and 2008. There, he had 66 tackles and 10 interceptions and returned five kickoffs for 120 yards. Between 2009 and 2012 he spent time with the Denver Broncos, New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Minnesota Vikings, Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, the Indianapolis Colts and in 2013 was with the Detroit Lions from February to August.

At six-foot-three, 208 pounds, Morrow is also a big defensive back. The 27-year-old racked up 204 tackles at the University of Toledo and had six interceptions, 29 knockdowns and forced two fumbles. Marrow was with the Houston Texans and the Buccaneers before landing in Edmonton.

Here’s some video on Morrow that Dave Campbell at 630 CHED dug up.

The signings mark the first transactions the Eskimos have made since announcing that Joe Burnett and Hugh Charles had been signed to new contracts on Dec. 17.
