The Edmonton Eskimos announced this afternoon that both quarterback Matt Nichols and offensive lineman Orrin Thompson have undergone successful surgery for their torn anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL).

Nichols injured his right knee in the Eskimos’ first preseason game on June 14, taking him out of the team’s quarterback competition. His injury solidified Mike Reilly as the team’s starter.

Thompson, the team’s nominee for outstanding lineman in 2012, injured his left knee on the first day of the team’s training camp on June 2. The team’s press release says that both players are expected to fully recover and be ready for the 2014 Canadian Football League season.
