Kavis Reed has some security.
The Edmonton Eskimos announced on Saturday that they’ve extended Reed, their head coach, who was entering into the final year of his contract with the Canadian Football League club. The team did not disclose the terms of Reed’s extension.
“This extension gives us stability going forward,” Eskimos general manager Ed Hervey said in the team’s press release. “Leadership is critical to a young football team for success and I know our players work extremely hard for and are committed to Coach Reed.”
Going into his second week of his third season as the team’s head coach, Reed’s overall record is 18-19. He was a CFL coach of the year finalist in 2011 and has taken the Eskimos into the playoffs the last two years. He was a 10-year coach in the CFL before landing the Eskimos job in December, 2010. As a player, Reed wore the Eskimos colours from 1995 to 1999 as a defensive back.
Reed and the Eskimos are in Guelph this weekend, where they’ll play the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at the University of Guelph’s Alumni Stadium on Sunday at 3 p.m. MT.
