With training camp inching closer, the Edmonton Eskimos made some adjustments to their Canadian content on Monday.
The team released defensive back/special teamer Delroy Clarke, who’d been with the club since 2011 and added wide receiver Ismael Bamba and defensive lineman Gregory Alexandre.
Clarke has 45 special teams tackles and two fumble recoveries in 59 career games since joining the Canadian Football League in 2008 with the Toronto Argonauts.
Bamba, six-foot-one and 195 pounds, spent the 2012 season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He grabbed attention late last year when he had to catch a ride with the team’s equipment to a game in Vancouver because he didn’t have any ID on him when the team got to the airport to fly to play the Lions. Aside from that travel fiasco, Bamba was a sixth-round pick (39th overall) of the Riders in the 2012 CFL Canadian Draft and made one catch last year for 17 yards. He started his collegiate career at the University of North Dakota but transfered to Sherbrooke and played well in Canadian Interuniversity Sport. He had 50 receptions in his senior year for 543 yards and four touchdowns. he also returned 12 kicks for 310 yards and one touchdown. He ran back 18 punts for 208 yards and one touchdown.
A University of Montreal product, the six-foot-two, 285-pound Alexandre went 35th overall in the 2011 CFL draft to the Argonauts. He’ll be 28 when training camp opens in June and has been a free agent since last season, when the Argos released him. At Montreal, he had 96 career tackles and set a school record with 19 quarterback sacks. He was the 2007 defensive rookie of the year and was a first-team CIS All-Canadian and a four-time First-Team All-Conference selection.
The Eskimos’ training camp will open on June 2.
